Inspiring a Love for Nature Through Stories
Every Story Begins With Wonder.
Every story blends imagination with real science to spark curiosity, encourage exploration, and show children that even the smallest actions can make a difference. Whether discovering sea turtles, ghost crabs, coral reefs, or backyard wildlife, each book inspires young readers to become thoughtful caretakers of our natural world.
Meet the Nature Lover Behind the Stories
I’m Kris Marvin, a children’s author, conservation educator, and nature enthusiast who believes stories have the power to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards. Through imagination, humor, and real science, my books invite children to laugh, wonder, and discover that even the smallest actions can make a difference – for wildlife, for our beaches, for our communities, and for one another.
Beyond writing, I love sharing these stories through school visits, library programs, festivals, and community events. I’ve had the privilege of connecting with more than 900 elementary students to inspire curiosity, kindness and a lifelong appreciation for the natural world. Drawing on my Master’s degree in Education and years of experience in educational publishing, I also create free educational resources that help families and educators continue the conservation conversation long after the last page is turned.
Whether I’m leading an author talk, writing my next story, researching a book, just exploring the shoreline, or volunteering with local conservation organizations, my mission is always the same: to help children discover that Everything Matters. Every choice we make, no matter how small, can create waves of positive change. Together, those small actions become lasting waves of change for our oceans, wildlife, communities, and future generations.

A Few Things About Me:
Favorite Ocean Animal: Leatherback Sea Turtle.
Why? They aren’t your typical sea turtle! They’re more like whales than sea turtles.
- They can dive 3,000+ feet deep.
- Their flexible skeleton and thick leathery skin (which they have instead of a hard shell like other turtles) help them withstand crushing pressure.
- They can swim into surprisingly cold waters thanks to a special heat-conserving circulatory system.
- Their favorite food? Giant jellyfish! I always tell people it’s like a sumo wrestler surviving on cucumber sandwiches!

Favorite Children’s Book: The Lorax by Dr. Seuss
Why? When I was a child, I loved all the animals in the story and I loved how the Lorax took care of them. I loved that it showed how one person can choose to care for the natural world. Long before I understood conservation, The Lorax planted the idea that every living thing matters.

Favorite Beach Activity: I actually have two favorites—scuba diving and beach walks
Why? Walking the beach is wonderfully peaceful because you never know what you’ll discover. I always have my camera ready to capture a beautiful shell, a shorebird, or a pretty sunset. Scuba diving offers a different kind of magic. Floating quietly beneath the waves, I get to experience a hidden world that few people ever see. Whether above the water or below it, nature always has something incredible to teach us—if we slow down and pay attention.
Things That Make Me Wonder: Can one story change the way someone sees the world?
~It’s the question that inspires every book I write. Every time I sit down to begin a page, I am thinking about YOU, my reader and what might light a fire inside you.

Be Part of the Story
Every child who discovers a love for nature today becomes tomorrow’s conservationist. Through stories, shared experiences, and hands-on learning, we can spark curiosity, build compassion, and inspire a lifetime of caring for our oceans.
Whether you read a book, request an author visit, download a free lesson plan, attend a community event, or simply share what you’ve learned with someone else, you’re helping create a ripple effect of positive change.
Because everything matters. Every reader. Every classroom. Every volunteer. Every conversation. Every act of kindness.
Together, we’re helping the next generation fall in love with the natural world—and inspiring them to protect it.
Every book purchased helps provide free educational resources, author visits, and conservation outreach for children and families. 100% of book profits support ocean education and conservation.
